Description
Culture & Lifestyle
eparting from your hotel by foot or by car, depending of the position of your hotel, you will head to the heart of Sibiu in just a few minutes. Start your walking tour by crisscrossing the center of the city with its combination of modern and ancient history. You will have a brief visit to the Evangelical Cathedral, raised in the 14th century with its tallest cathedral tower in Romania. Then I will lead you to the Little Square where you will see the Council Tower, one of the former city gates, part of the second fortification ring. You will also go over The Liar’s Bridge, the first iron bridge in Romania, the equivalent of the most famous Rome’s attraction - Boca de la verita.
You will walk to Large Square, located in the heart of the city. First mentioned in documents in 1411 as a cereal market, the square exists since 1366 when the third fortification belt of the city was finalized.
Your walking tour continues on to the medieval streets of Sibiu towards southern fortification walls. Here, with monuments like Thick Tower - the actual host of the Philharmonic, Carpenters’ or the Arquebusiers’ Tower you can enjoy the unique character and rich history of Old Town. Your walking tour concludes at Astra Parc. Here you will have time for shopping, either at the local agricultural market where you can buy fruits, vegetables or the famous Sibiu Cheese from local farmers, or at the modern Sibiu Shopping Center, a few minutes away by car form the City Center.
